Real Madrid are now ten points clear of Villarreal and fourteen ahead of arch-rivals Barcelona after this weekend’s games.
Real Madrid were 3-0 winners against Athletic Bilbao, Saviola opening the scoring and Robben and Higuaín added two more for good measure. It wasn’t all plain sailing, though, as Casillas had to save a Garmendia penalty to keep his side ahead at the half-time break.
Real have to wait another week before being crowned champions for the second year running, Villarreal being the party poopers. They were 1-0 winners at Betis with a goal from Marcos Senna and, mathematically at least, could overhaul the leaders with four matches still to be played.
Levante are relegated after losing 2-0 to Recreativo who themselves crawl out of the bottom three.
In the Primera Andaluza Grupo 3, local lads CD Nerja stay in seventh place in the league despite losing 2-0 away to the top club, CD Ronda. Estepona, in second place, were comfortable 4-1 winners against La Puerta CD and Torremolinos remain third after a 1-0 victory away to Jódar Al-Andalus.
