Champs and Chumps

Real Madrid are Champions for the second year running with two games to spare.

Real Madrid came from behind to beat Osasuna 2-1 to take the title, Robben and Higuaín scoring in the last seven minutes. Earlier in the evening, Villarreal were 2-0 victors over Getafe which meant Real needed a victory to get the championship over and done with. Nihat scored both goals and Villarreal are now assured of a Champions League place next season.

Barcelona bounced back from their midweek Champions League defeat with an emphatic 6-0 thrashing of Valencia. Messi, Xavi and Henry put Barca three up within the first quarter of an hour. Thierry Henry got his second of the night just after the restart and then Bojan bagged a couple to complete the rout.

Murcia joined Levante on the relegation express after suffering a 3-2 defeat to Racing Santander. Murcia were 2-0 up but, just after the restart, de Coz put the ball into his own net and it all went downhill from there.

Any one of six clubs could still join Murcia and Levante in the second division next season and, with just two games to go, there is still a lot of sorting out to be done regarding places in the various European competitions next season.

In Division Two, Numancia also took a step closer to promotion to La Liga with a 4-2 victory against Tenerife. A couple of wins will see them promoted.

In the Primera Andaluza Grupo 3, C.D. Nerja went down 0-1 to visitors Martos C.D. but remain in seventh place in the league.

Torremolinos and C.D. Ronda played out a 1-1 draw which allowed Estepona to move up to top spot after their 1-2 victory away to Real Jaén B.
