The Salamanca bullfighter Javier valverde has been seriously injured in a bullfight during the Estepona San Isidro celebrations.
The matador was about to kill the first of his bulls when he was gored in the leg. Valverde was rushed to hospital to undergo emergency surgery. He has three wounds on the back of his right thigh which penetrated 18, 20 and 25 cms and have destroyed much of his glutimus maximus, femoral biceps and some external muscle. The prognosis is said to be ‘serious’.
