La Liga all sorted

The final day of La Liga and the various issues were all settled.

Levante, Real Murcia and Zaragoza are on their way to the Second Division, Zaragoza joining those already relegated after losing 3-1 to Mallorca.

Mallorca themselves were hoping for a UEFA Cup place but were denied by a late strike by Racing Santander’s Ivan Boládo against Osasuna, the Cantabrians now set to embark upon their first ever foray into European competition. Sevilla, 4-1 winners over Athletic, will join them in the UEFA Cup.

Champions Real Madrid were 5-2 winners over relegated Levante. The match had been in doubt with the Levante players threatening strike action over unpaid wages but, in the end, it went ahead. They probably wish it hadn’t! Van Nistelrooy bagged two goals, as did Sergio Ramos, with Sneijder also getting in on the act. Geijo scored both of Levante’s goals.

The Champions League places for next season are for Real Madrid, Villarreal, Barcelona and Atlético Madrid.
