There have been at least fifty arrests in Málaga in connection with a Nigerian lottery scam.
National Police have so far arrested at least fifty individuals in connection with (another) Nigerian lottery scam which induces people to part with money in advance f receiving their ‘winnings’.
More than 300 police officers took part in the investigation into this scam, particularly in the Carretera de Cádiz, Héroe de Sostoa, la Victoria and la Palmilla districts.
A similar operation in July 2005 resulted in the detention of 310 individuals who had duped some 20,000 people in 45 different countries.
Letters and emails were sent out to the lucky ‘winners’ (who probably never entered a lottery in the first place and should have been at least suspicious!!) saying that in order to collect their prize, they had to first send a sum of money. Doh….
