Another ETA bomb attack

Three people were slightly injured, two of them police officers, in a bomb explosion in Zarauz, Guipuzcoa.

The bomb, planted by ETA, exploded outside the premises of the construction company Amenabar. The company is working on the new AVE high-speed train system in the Basque country, a project which ETA opposes.

A telephone warning was made to the DYA traffic organisation an hour before the explosion, giving police just enough time to cordon off the area, which is residential. The two police officers who were injured in the blast suffered hearing problems, the third person suffered various cuts as a result of flying glass. The building itself suffered mild damage.

ETA has long been opposed to the high-speed rail link and earlier this month blew up a couple of bulldozers working on the project, also the property of the company Amenabar. There haves also been several other instances of sabotage and vandalism against companies involved in the construction of the new line.
