Mindful of the DGT campaign ‘If you drink, don’t drive’, Torrox Council is to provide a free bus service for young people.
The initiative by Torrox Council is aimed at preventing accidents due to the consumption of alcohol and the scheme will run until August 31st.
A free bus service, called ‘Ven conmigo. Prívate’ (Come with me. Private’), will operate between the main centres of population in the municipality between 23:00 and 04:00. The scheme is costing the Council €7,700 but they consider it ‘money well spent’ if it reduces the number of alcohol induced accidents amongst the younger population and allows parents to sleep more easily.
The Council is hoping to extend the service to cover other holiday periods, such as Christmas and Easter.
