Selwo Adventure Park in Estepona has a new inmate, a baby Asian elephant born last Saturday.
The baby elephant was born at the weekend and now, at five days old, weighs 91 kilos. Fully grown, he will eventually weigh around five tons.
A family of Asian elephants was introduced into the park as part of the European Programme for Conservation and Reproduction of Endangered Species (EEP) of the European Association of Zoos and Aquariums.
The Asian elephant is the largest land mammal and in grave danger of extinction, a maximum of 52,000 remaining on the planet. This birth at the weekend was the first ever in Spain and the sixth in Europe this year.
