Tourist numbers for the month of July were down 8% on last year, although the overall number of visitors during the first seven months of the year was up by 0.2%.
The largest drop was in the number of French visitors, down by nearly 22%. France the world’s most popular tourist destination, is the third biggest tourist market for Spain, with Britain and Germany being the top two.
The current economic crisis in Spain is being blamed for the drop in visitor numbers. Tourism accounts for about 12% of the total economy.
