The Vandellós II nuclear power plant in Tarragona was forced to shut down yesterday after a fire broke out in one of the electrical generators.
The fire started at 08:49 and was extinguished at 10:30. The incident initiated a ‘pre-alert’ status of the Plan de Emergencia Interior (PEI) (Internal Emergency Plan) although the owners of the plant stated that the safety measures in place ensured that there was no threat of danger to the workers or the environment.
