20,000 kilos of floating debris removed from coastal waters

The Axarquia cleaning services have removed around 20,000 kilos of floating debris from the coastal waters during this summer.

The amount of debris is a lot less than last year, mainly due to there being a lot less jellyfish around this year. Last year, there were almost 20,000 kilos of jellyfish and other dead fish as well as the normal rubbish.

Two-thirds of the rubbish removed from the sea was discarded plastics and packaging materials, people obviously too lazy to put them in the (ample) bins along the coast.

The cleaning boat has been a regular sight in Nerja during the summer, chugging up and down the coast from beach to beach.
