Singer Ana Torroja and actress Esther Arroyo are recovering in hospital after a road accident yesterday on the N-340 near Vejer de la Frontera. One person died in the incident and six others were injured.
The accident occurred at 09:30 Friday morning on the N-340 about ten kilometres from Vejer de la Frontera. A Ford Transit van was apparently traveling at high speed on the windy road, despite the bad weather, and spun, blocking the road. The Chrysler Voyager in which Ana Torroja and Esther Arroyo were traveling hit the van head-on.
Ana Torroja is in the Punta de Europa hospital in Algeciras and is recovering from a fractured collarbone. Esther Arroyo is in the Hospital Universitario in Puerto Real where she has undergone surgery on several fractures to one leg.
Another of the wounded, 29 year old O.J.P., continues in Intensive Care but is said to be ‘stable’.
Thirty-nine year old M.A.H.G. has been transferred to the University Hospital Puerta del Mar in Cádiz for an evaluation of facial injuries sustained in the accident, while the other two injured people, initials A.N.O. and R.L.L., are recovering favourably, although the latter remains in Intensive Care.
The fatality in the accident was 40 year old U.D.A.R., who died in the Hospital Universitario in Puerto Real. It is thought that the fact that Ana Torroja and Esther Arroyo were wearing seatbelts was the reason they survived the accident.
