Málaga bus fares to increase in January

The Empresa Malagueña de Transportes (EMT), the company who run the bus service in Málaga, has announced that ticket prices are set to rise in January 2009.

A regular bus ticket will cost €1.10, an increase of 10%. The rise is related to an increase in the Consumer Price Index (CPI), diesel costs and interest rates.

The good news is that there will be two ‘free fares’, one for those with mobility problems and another for the unemployed.

The increases still have to be finally approved but the new ticket prices are expected to be:

  • A 10 strip ticket – €6.45 (up 5.7%).
  • A monthly pass – €34.30.
  • A student card – €23.00.
