Repairs to the tunnel which carries water from Guadiaro to Majaceite, Cádiz province, are expected to be completed by the end of the year.
The 12 kilometre water transfer tunnel was built between 1994 and 1997 at a cost of €36 million and began operating for the first time in November 2000. The repairs to the tunnel wall, damaged by the pressure of earth, are costing €500,000 and are being financed by the Junta de Andalucía.
The damaged area is 8 kilometres inside the tunnel and it takes workers half an hour to reach the eork site.
