Pavement collapse in Sevilla swallows kiosk

It was 16:30, and the owner of a small kiosk in Puerta de Jerez, Sevilla, felt the earth begin to tremble and ran out without stopping to pick up any of his belongings. He then watched as the kiosk, and a lamppost next to it, disappeared from sight.

Like a scene from a horror movie, the ground opened up and swallowed the kiosk, leaving nothing visible above ground. The kiosk was about 3 metres high, the hole in the ground was 6 to 8 metres deep.

The location of the kiosk was by the entrance to the car park by calle Almirante Lobo.

Various Council officials visited the site but refused to comment on the cause of the pavement collapse, although work is being carried out on the UTE metro line at the Puerta de Jerez station, the current works being at the exact spot where the incident occurred!
