The price of petrol is down to €0.86, its lowest level since January 2005, and diesel is down to €0.889, its lowest level since January 2007.
At their peaks, in July 2008, petrol was €1.276 per litre and diesel was €1.329 for one litre.
The surge in summer fuel prices coincided with a record high price for Brent crude, €147 per barrel. However, the current price is a mere €46.45 per barrel, quite a difference.
