According to Sevillana-Endesa, the power cut affected around 4,000 people in Nerja, Frigiliana and Torrox.
Other sources put the number affected at up to 10,000, including residents in both Almuñecar and Salobreña. The power failure was caused by the high winds which temporarily damaged one of the high tension pylons.
