The Councillor for Infrastructure, José Alberto Tomé Rivas, has announced that the central garden area of the Plaza Paseo Nuevo is to be removed.
It has been decided to get rid of the garden area, replanting the trees and shrubs elsewhere in the town. The reason for this is twofold, one being that the area can then be used for more events, and the other being that, over time, it is feared that the area would deteriorate and water could eventually find its way into the underground car park.
The soil will be removed and a waterproof layer will be added. Shame no-one thought of this scenario before spending the money building the garden area in the first place!
