Jerez wine sales down for first time in eight years

The sales of Marco de Jerez wines during the past twelve months fell by 3.6%, the first time this has happened for eight years. In total, wine sales were 50.5 million litre, some 8% less than in 2007.

Domestic consumption fell by around 3%, while exports suffered a 10% decline overall. Most worrying for the industry is the decline in consumption in the traditional markets of the UK, Holland and Germany. There is little optimism that 2009 is going to be any better.
