Spanish clubs bow out of UEFA Cup

football1Both Valencia and Deportivo bowed out of the UEFA Cup leaving no Spanish sides in the last sixteen.

Valencia drew 2-2 at home with Dynamo Kiev, which made it 3-3 on aggregate and it was the away goals rule which decided matters in favour of the Ukranians. On the night, Marchena and del Horno got the goals for Valencia, Kravets bagging a pair for Kiev.

Deportivo, on the other hand, were well and truly beaten by AaB Aalborg, losing 1-6 on aggregate. Trailing 0-3 after the first leg, Deportivo had an uphill task ahead of them and despite taking the lead through Sergio in the 38th minute, went on to lose 1-3 on the night. Shelton, Johansson and Enevoldsen were the scorers for Aalborg, all the goals coming in a four minute period just before the break.
