The Local Police in Coín has set up two email addresses to enable denuncias to be made via the internet and, as a result, anonymously.
The address [email protected] is the all-purpose mailbox and [email protected] relates solely to incidents involving those under 18 years of age.
The police believe that many people are being put off reporting crimes through fear of possible consequences and they believe the new system, affording anonymity, will help. The emails will not be considered ‘formal complaints’ but will initiate an investigation.
In the case of minors, it is hoped that the system will help to bring to light cases of gender violence and the sale of drugs to juveniles, particularly in and around schools. A specially set up plain clothes unit will investigate the email complaints.
However, the system has actually been in operation for a week now and, so far, there have been no complaints received.
