Manes Castro Zabaleta, a presumed member of ETA, has been arrested in the guipuzcoan town of Billabona. The 24 year old is wanted in connection with the placing of two booby trap bombs on Santa Bárbara in Hernani. It is also thought that he was preparing to carry out another attack in the very near future.
Manes Castro has been under surveillance since the bomb attacks on Santa Bárbara. The attacks on a relay station on Santa Bárbara occurred in January 2009. One bomb was detonated at the relay station as ‘bait’ to tempt the police to rush in, two other devices being placed in the area and connected via a trip wire.
In the event, the police decided to wait until dawn to enter the area and, as a result, discovered the booby traps.
