Yeeha, Burriana round-up…

burriana5The wind got up and was quite strong at times and the sea was pretty rough. The walk down Cardiac Hill isn’t that bad, but the return…..So, off for lunch at Ayo’s and check out what’s happening on Burriana. Long walk!

A bit of action in calle Carabeo, a huge digger there at the moment. Still stinks to high heaven but doesn’t seem to reach as far now, just at the site itself.

The Irish Harp Bar on calle Carabeo is up for sale, freehold, if anyone is looking for an Irish bar!

Incidentally (it was en route, sort of), Bar Trillijos on calle Los Huertos opens again on April 4th.

trianaDown on Burriana, the new La Traiña (which I think is a deep sea trawling net) opens on March 27th. The workmen are still busy getting everything ready.

Well, ‘busy’ might be a slight exaggeration!

It’s on the site formerly occupied by the various Haveli establishments, Sands etc.

tropicalThe cocktail bar, just a bit further along, has gone. Noticeable once again that the actual beachfront restaurants appear to be doing a bit better than those behind the promenade.

Several of the beachfront places, La Barca, Ayo’s and José Cruz, were enjoying reasonable custom, maybe 20 to 30 people in each place. Not bad for a very windy day. And the smell of charcoal grills was wafting all over the place, adding to the attraction.

Half of the second line of bars and restaurants were closed and of the rest, the only one doing any sort of business was ‘Paradise’, or ‘The Paradise Cocktail Bar’ to give it it’s full title. Nice bar, always good, cheerful service and nice terrace.

Hadn’t been to Ayo’s for a while so I was looking forward to that. It may not be the best paella in town, and people are still debating that subject all over the place, but the place does have ‘something’. It has atmosphere certainly, prices are reasonable and one just feels relaxed there. I like it anyway.

I met up with some American friends who hadn’t been back to Nerja for a couple of years and we enjoyed a nice paella as I brought them up to date with what’s been happening, or not, in this part of the world.

Now, at the very end of Burriana beach, on the cliffside, is a protruding rock whic I think looks like a giant bird sticking its head out! Click to enlarge it and it really does look like a bird, hawk-like.
