If you get burgled or attacked these days, little chance of an officer of the law turning up. Wake up a sleeping dormouse, though, and the sirens wail.
A remark made by Jonathan Ross (him again!) on his show about a dormouse being woken from its hibernation, an offence under the Animal and Welfare Act, to take part in a photo shoot led to police raiding the Secret World Wildlife Rescue Centre in Somerset, where Dozey the dormouse is being cared for.
Surprised they found it as it’s ‘secret’, maybe they’ve installed sat-nav on their truncheons. Staff at the centre had to convince the police that Ross was only jesting with his remark. A number of viewers, outraged by the remark, apparently called in the law.
