Investigation begins into Granada gas explosion

Preliminary investigations into the gas explosion in Granada, which resulted in the death of one man and caused injuries to two other people, suggest the cause of the blast was the release and subsequent build-up of gas during an installation.

One of the injured, a 60 year old man, is a gas technician and was apparently working on a new installation when the incident occurred. He is currently in a serious but stable condition in the ICU of the Hospital de Traumatología.

The man who died and the woman who was injured were the occupants of an adjacent apartment and it is thought that the man could have died as a result of the blast.

The explosion caused damage to about a dozen cars in the street and debris was strewn over an area of about 100 metres.

A criminal investigation has begun to ascertain exactly what happened.
