No instant profits for Torrox car park

UTE Almedina, who have a 20 year concession to run the car park in Torrox Pueblo, have accumulated losses of €67,900 (€503 per day) and are demanding compensation from the Council.

The Almedina car park was built at a cost of over  million and opened last December. It has 400 places, divided between normal slots and those available for long-term hire.

UTE Almedina complain that the Council has not closed the large, open air car parks at El Cerrillo, just above the Almedina car park, and this is causing too much competition. The Council says that two of the three plots were closed, as agreed, but one remains open for the parking of lorries and vans and for loading and unloading purposes.

The Council also points out that such parking facilities are never profitable in their first year and asks UTE Almedina to be ‘patient’. They say the concession is 20 years with the option for a further 20 years, plenty of time to make a profit. In other words, they are not going to do anything about the complaints from UTE Almedina.
