Bus station snafu?

Here we go again. The Provincial Delegate for Public Works, Dolores Fernández, has warned the Council that the proposed site for the building of the new bus station is classified as rural land according to the Junta de Andalucía and therefore cannot be built upon.

Dolores Fernández urges the Council to make arrangements with the owners of the land and then change the status from rural to urban so as to comply with the PGOU, POTA and other regulations.

Although the Department of Public Works is quite happy, willing and ready to build the bus station, they cannot even carry out the necessary technical assessments, produce reports or estimate budgets until the change of status is completed.

Two sites were submitted as ‘possibles’ for the new bus station – not that we really have an old one! -, these being on the land behind the Mercadona supermarket (also offered for the Health Centre) and close to the Rapto de Europa in an area known as ‘Los Pinos’.

At the time of submission of these two sites, in November 2008, the Councilor for Transportation, Antonio Miguel Navas, announced that both were suitable and compatible with the PGOU and POTA. However, it seems that, according to the Junta de Andalucía, the land is ‘private and rural’.
