The Maritime Rescue Service is carrying out a search to try and locate as many as twenty illegal immigrants who are unaccounted for after their boat capsized.
The MRS had received notification that a boat had left Tangier for Tarifa and had gone to investigate. The boat was located 10 miles south of Tarifa (4 miles north of Tangier).
However, the boat had capsized and the MRS found the crew and 22 immigrants, 11 men and 11 women, clinging to the upturned hull. According to the crew there were at least 40 people on board when the boat left Tangier.
