Huelva to Madrid by rail in only 3 hours 45 minutes

RENFE, the rail network operator, is currently renewing its trains in an attempt to have the most modern fleet in Europe by the year 2010.

As from today, Altaria 130 locomotives will be operating on the Huelva to Madrid line, cutting the journey by 45 minutes to 3 hours and 45 minutes.

The Altaria 130 trains, the latest generation in technology, can travel up to speeds of 250 kph and can travel on both the conventional and high-speed tracks as the axles are adjustable.

On the Huelva to Madrid run, there will now be no need to change engines at Majarabique for the high-speed section between Sevilla and Madrid.

The new 130 series has seating for 299 people, an increase of 36% over the previous Altaria trains, reclining seats which can be adjusted according to the direction of travel, foot rests, individual reading lights as well as built in audio (4) and video (2) channels.

RENFE is purchasing 45 of these trains from Talgo-Bombardier at a cost of €584.3 million.
