A young girl is in a very serious condition and a 19 year old youth is in a serious condition following a fire in calle Palangre in the Atunera district of La Linea. The mother of the two children died in the fire.
A further ten people were injured, including police officers, although none of the injuries were considered to be serious.
A police officer, using a cutter provided by one of the neighbours, cut his way through a barred gate and managed to reach the young girl trapped by the fire, performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation until the arrival of the Emergency Services. His actions almost certainly saved the life of the young girl.
The fire, which was on the top floor of the building, appears to have been started deliberately and one man has been detained. The detainee is a man who had an emotional relationship with the deceased woman and against whom a number of denuncias for abuse had been issued.
The two children are currently in the Burns Unit at the Virgen del Rocío Hospital in Sevilla.
