Shooting in Villanueva de Duero

A man was seriously injured on Saturday afternoon following a drive-by shooting in the town of Villanueva de Duero.

At around 15:30 on Saturday afternoon, a man, initials J.L.S.D, was walking in the Bajada de la Trinidad area of the town when a Seat Toledo drew up alongside. Inside the car was a man, a woman and two children.

The driver of the car, later identified as P.G.R, suddenly pulled a gun and began shooting, hitting J.L.S.D in the abdomen. After the shooting, the driver sped off.

However, his speedy escape was spotted by a Guardia Civil Seprona patrol. They passed the information to their colleagues and a search for the vehicle began.

The vehicle was spotted by a National Police patrol on the outskirts of Valladolid. P.G.R tried to evade the police patrol but ended up crashing and was duly detained. Inside the car, in addition to the detainee, were his wife and two children. A search of the car revealed not only the pistol used in the earlier shooting, but also several other handguns.

According to reports, the arrested man is linked to a clan headed by Amancio García Carro, alias ‘El Rubio’, which operates in the Los Alambres area of Salamanca. He is also implicated in another shooting in Valladolid.
