Seven detentions in connection with forest fires

The summer fires continue, having so far claimed seven lives and resulted in seven people being detained in connection with various incidents.

The authorities believe that up to 95% of the fires are the result of accident, negligence or arson.

Two Rumanian nationals, aged 23 years and 25 years, have been charged with starting a forest fire in Cuevas de Ayllón (Soria).

Two people have been detained in the towns of La Vall d’Alcalá and Vall de Gallinera in Alicante province and two more have been arrested in Gaucín and Mijas. The burning of stubble and agricultural waste without proper safety measures is thought to have been the cause of the fires in Gaucín and Mijas.

In El Cerro de Andévalo, police have detained 55 yer old P.P.M. in connection with several fires in the area. An investigation has led police to believe that P.P.M. is responsible for the starting of at least seven forest fires this year.
