A 30 year old woman in Utiel, Valencia, was shot and killed by her husband, a Guardia Civil officer, in the latest case of domestic violence.
After shooting his wife, using his regulation firearm, the officer called a friend and then surrendered himself to the authorities and confessed to the crime.
There was no previous incidents of abuse or violence within the family. The officer is in custody at the Guardia Civil station and a an investigation is underway into the circumstances of the incident. It is known that the officer returned to duty after suffering a bout of depression.
This is the 40th domestic violence fatality in Spain so far this year.
