Opening of grave thought to contain the remains of Garcia Lorca could take place in October

The Junta de Andalucía expects that the exhumation of remains thought to be those of the poet Garcia Lorca could take place at some stage during October.

The deadline for registering opposition to the request to open the unmarked grave has been extended by ten days. After this time, the Junta will consider, and try and resolve, any opposition while, at the same time, making the necessary preparations for the opening of the mass grave.

Family of Garcia Lorca, who was shot by Franco forces at the beginning of the Spanish Civil War, have long registered their opposition to the exhumation of any remains.

Although the mass grave is thought to contain, amongst others, the body of Federico Garcia Lorca, it is by no means certain.
