Change in weather hits chiringuitos

The sudden change in the weather is having a drastic effect on the beach chiringuitos in the province as they struggle to make ends meet.

Last year, the summer season continued well into October and the beach bars were hoping for a similar situation this year to at least salvage something after a mediocre August. But it appears that it is not to be. The wintery conditions are discouraging people from going to the beach.

Many of the seasonal establishments have already put up the shutters, or are only opening at weekends. In Estepona, a lot of the beach bars have closed and in Torre del Mar hardly anywhere is open. The owners are trying to remain optimistic for another change in the weather and for a good autumn, but it’s all in the lap of the gods.

In Málaga province, revenues appear to be down by between 15% and 20% compared to last year, not as bad as some expected considering the overall economic situation in the country at the moment.
