Local lass Esther Hidalgo from the Cueva de Nerja-Uma Athletics Club just missed out on a podium place in the Spanish Half Marathon, finishing in fourth place.
Only 16 seconds from a bronze medal, this is the best finish by an athlete from Cueva de Nerja-Uma, the previous highest position achieved being a ninth place. Her time for covering the 21,097 metres was 1 hour 15 minutes and 49 seconds.
Hidalgo will next competing in the New York Marathon. In last year’s event she finished 57th in a time of 2 hours 57 minutes and 25 seconds.
