National Police officers have seized 35 kilos of heroin hidden inside the hydraulic brake system of a truck, the first time this method of concealment has been encountered.
A police investigation into a group of narcotics traffickers began several months ago and in the first phase of the operation, eleven people were arrested in Zaragoza.
The investigators identified the person behind a large drugs smuggling network, a man with the initials G.T. and based in Bulgaria. They also learned that a large shipment of drugs to Spain was being planned and when G.T. travelled to Spain to oversee the project he was constantly under surveillance.
This led to his arrest, along with five other people, at a service station in Seseña, Toledo. The truck thought to be carrying the drugs was removed to the police compound where technicians and representatives of the truck manufacturer attempted to discover where the drugs were hidden.
Two metal cylinders were eventually located inside the hydraulic braking system.
