A 75 year old man died on Saturday evening in a fire at his home in the Los Pajaritos district of Granada.
The fire, in calle Gaviota, was reported at 21:10 on Saturday evening after residents in the block saw smoke coming from several doors and windows on the second floor.
Firefighters evacuated residents from the building and began the task of extinguishing the blaze. The firefighters reached the apartment where the man, who had mobility problems, was known to be trapped but he was already dead.
Although there were no specific or immediate signs that the fire was started deliberately, there was some speculation at the scene that the victim had possibly committed suicide. An autopsy is being carried out and the authorities are investigating the incident.
