A two and a half year old boy died and a 42 year old woman was injured yesterday following a fire in a block of apartments in the north of Granada city.
The fire started at 10:40 on the lower floor of a three storey block of apartments in calle Rodrigo de Triana and rapidly spread to the other floors, necessitating the evacuation of all the residents.
In addition to firefighters and medical personnel, Local Police and National Police in riot gear also moved to the area as tension rose in this troubled district.
The child who died was in the first floor apartment where the blaze originated. The injured woman, who is in the ICU at the Hospital de Traumatología in Granada, was a third floor resident.
The cause of the fire is not yet known.
