Body in river identified as that of missing policewoman

The body of a woman found in the river Ebro in Álava province has been identified as being that of a policewoman who disappeared two weeks ago. Her ex-husband, a former police officer, has been in custody since her disappearance.

On November 2nd, the 35 year old policewoman failed to turn up for duty at her workplace in Logroño. Her colleagues were surprised about her absence as she had not called in to say she would be taking a day off.

When she still did not turn up for work after several days, colleagues went to her house where they found signs of violence. The ex-husband, a 36 year old retired police officer from Madrid, was called in for questioning about her disappearance.

After being held for the maximum 72 hours in custody, he was brought before the court and ordered to jail on suspicion of murder. The former policeman, B.M.M., denied any knowledge of his former wife’s disappearance.

The two police officers were at the Police Training Academy in Ávila together and in 2002, were then stationed in Ceuta. It was here that B.M.M., in an attempt to stop an illegal immigrant entering the conclave, caused the death of said immigrant by asphyxiation.

B.M.M. left the police force on the grounds of incapacity for work resulting from psychological problems.
