Living in the past

A novel idea from the owners of a bar in Granada. Celebrating the 50th anniversary since the Bar Restaurante León first opened its doors to the public, all prices, both food and drink, are set for the day as they were 50 years ago.

A beer and a tapa for 1 peseta, a breakfast for two pesetas and a meal – soup or stew, meat or fish dish, dessert, bread and drink – for 28 pesetas.

Even some of the menu names are from yesteryear, such as ‘pidega’ (sausage with bread) and ‘hiro hito (calamares in a yellow sauce).

Customers arriving at the bar this morning were stunned to see the prices and by lunchtime the place was packed, which is hardly surprising.
