At an official ceremony at the Town Hall, the discoverers of the Nerja Caves received yet another honour as part of the 50th Anniversary celebrations.
Francisco Navas, Manuel Zorrilla, Miguel Zorrilla and José Luis Barbero (posthumously) received a commemorative medal and were named ‘Hijos Predilectos’ (Favoured Sons). The fifth member of the group, José Torres Cárdenas, was awarded a medal and named ‘Hijo Adoptivo’ as he is not a native of Nerja.
The group were also shown a new sculpture by Francisco Martín which will shortly adorn the Balcon de Europa.
