A 41 year old woman has been detained in Málaga and charged with the temporary abandonment of a minor, namely her son aged three years and ten months.
At 10:30, neighbours informed the police that there was a child on its own in an apartement and that the toddler had been crying for about an hour.
Local Police officers went to the apartment and spoke to the young boy who, from inside, explained that his mother had gone out and he had not been fed.
At 12:30, unable to locate the mother, firefighters gained entry to the apartment. Although the apartment suffered from poor sanitation and hygiene and there was rubbish and laundry all over the place, the boy was clean and in good health.
At 14:00, police managed to locate the mother and she was taken to hospital for psychiatric evaluation before being charged with abandonment.
According to neighbours, it was not the first time the young boy had been left on his own.
