Wins for the top three in La Liga

Real Madrid are trying to keep up the pressure on leaders Barcelona, Higuain and Granero scoring the goals to give them a 2-0 victory over Mallorca.

Leaders Barcelona had a much easier time of things, winning 0-5 away to Tenerife. That man Messi, footballer of the year, grabbed a hat-trick, Puyol added one more and then Luna capped an awful day for the islanders by putting the ball into his own net.

Weligton gave the Blue and Whites the lead against Athletic Bilbao but they couldn’t hold on, Llorente grabbing an equaliser with a 78th minute penalty. Málaga are still firmly settled in the bottom three in La Liga.

Valencia are keeping up their challenge for a Champions League place, travelling to Xerez and leaving with all three points in a 1-3 victory. Mata, Silva and Marchena were on the score sheet for Valencia, Calvo fining the net for Xerez.

In the Primera Andaluz Grupo 3, Nerja’s match against CD Vilches was postponed due to bad weather.
