The Iglesia de Santa María la Mayor in Torreperogil becomes an historical monument

The Iglesia de Santa María la Mayor in Torreperogil, Jaén province, has been included in the General Catalogue of Andalucian Historical Heritage.

The Gothic church dates back to the early part of the XVI Century and is known for its Renaissance art and a stone altarpiece by Alonso de Vandelvira.

As a site of historical interest, there is now a zone of protection around the church which includes plaza de Santa Cruz and calles Cristo Baja, Escucha Baja, Risquillo Alto, Risquillo Bajo, Iglesia and Perogil
