Attempts to re-float the Panamanian-flagged ‘Rhea’, which ran aground on El Rinconcillo beach in Algeciras, have been suspended and will resume tomorrow when the tide is more favourable.
The ‘Rhea’, built in 1984 and 100 metres in length has a draught of 7.18 metres. The ship arrived in Algeciras from Ceuta on Tuesday and was due to take on drinking water.
The captain of the vessel apparently refused several offers of assistance from the Harbour Master and then ran aground on El Rinconcillo beach.
Tugs and pilots spent all day Monday trying to move the ship.
