New Abortion Law

After numerous rejections and amendments, the new Law on Sexual Reproduction, Reproduction and Voluntary Interruption of Pregnancy – otherwise known as the Abortion Law – is making its final passage through parliament and will come into effect four months after publication in the Official Gazette.

The new law was finally approved by the Senate with 132 votes in favour, 126 votes against and 1 abstention. There had been 3 vetoes at various stages and 88 amendments submitted by the various political parties.

The reformed Abortion Law states that minors between 16 years and 18 years should inform their parents except in cases of serious conflict.
