Sewage leak in Ronda

A broken pipe is causing raw, untreated residual waters to be discharged into the stream La Toma near the urbanisation La Galia in Ronda, the second such occurrence in the area in recent weeks.

After complaints from local residents, Local Police officers carried out an inspection of the area and confirmed that raw sewage was indeed being discharged into the stream.

Poor water quality and the lack of water treatment plants is one of the main problems confronting the Serrania de Ronda, with only four of the twenty-two municipalities (Ronda, El Burgo, Parauta and Gaucín) actually purifying the water supply.

There are some plants currently under construction, such as in Cuevas del Becerro and Algatocín, the rest are still at the planning stage. The rivers Genal and Guadiaro are the worst affected by the pollution. The river Guadiaro contains high levels of pollution from pig farms in the area.
