Fire in Sevilla claims life of woman

A fire last night at a block of flats in Sevilla resulted in the death of one person and caused injuries to three others.

The fire began at 23:30 on the sixth floor of an eight floor block of apartments in calle Sendai. Initial indications are that the fire was unintentional and was caused by a lighted candle which set fire to a mattress in a bedroom where a woman was sleeping.

The apartment had no electricity, ruling out an electrical short-circuit as the potential cause.

The deceased, a woman, was apparently asleep when the fire started. The injured were taken to the Burns Unit of the Hospital Virgen del Rocío.
