In the hoofprints of the ‘bandaleros’

The Benamocarra Equestrian Association is organising the fifth ‘La Axarquía y sus bandoleros’ (Axarquia and its bandits) in which members travel on horseback along some of the routes used by the old bandits of the Málaga region.

The 2010 route is scheduled to take place on April 30th, May 1st and 2nd and will be between Benamocarra and Canillas de Albaida.

The initiative was launched in 2006 in order to enjoy horseback riding through the district and to follow in the footsteps of the bandits who roamed the area during the latter part of the XIX Century.

Bandits of this area were the likes of Luis Muñoz from El Borge, known as ‘el Bizco’, Manuel Melgares from Algarrobo, and Francisco Antonio Palma from Vélez-Málaga, known locally as ‘Frasco Antonio’.
